Olympic Celebrations

on Feb 08 in news

With the Olympic year now upon us and the rumour mill well and truly turning about which path the Olympic touch will travel on its National Tour, Sportscape are just talking a moment to reflect on the real value and meaning of the Olympic and Paralympic games.

The Olympic games consists of a variety Sports. Some of these sports may be considered mainstream, such as Football, Hockey, Basketball, Tennis and Athletics. All of these sports are currently delivered by Sportscape in their partner schools during PPA cover and during their After Schools Clubs. A lot of these clubs allow children the opportunity to be active and get fit, to develop and learn skills and coordination techniques and most importantly the opportunity to build confidence and make friends.

These qualities are also true of the sports that are not normally as well covered in the media such as Archery, Fencing, Table Tennis, Beach Volleyball and Handball.  The Olympics gives these sports a much needed slice of publicity and Sportscape hope to inspire children to try something different along with continuing with the sports they love to play through the sessions we will deliver in 2012 and beyond in school PE lessons and After School Clubs.

During the summer term Sportscape will be helping Schools and Children celebrate the Olympic and all of the sports that the Olympics showcases. We will also be aiming to promote the Paralympics and their member sports, such as Boccia and Sitting Volleyball.

Most importantly Sportscape aim to keep sport inclusive for all and give EVERY CHILD, EVERY OPPORTUNITY to do something that they love. This maybe through the PPA Cover in PE lessons or in our After school clubs.

The Olympics however do mean so much more than just playing sport. This is why it is often billed as “The greatest show on earth.” It is about the Olympic Values that are not only true in sport but are transferrable for everyday life.

These values are
1. Equality
2. Determination
3. Courage
4. Friendship
5. Respect
6. Inspiration and
7. Excellence

As part of Sportscape’s mission statement and philosophy we state that Sport should be inclusive, but also that it should be used as a development tool for holistic development. The Olympic Values mirror these beliefs and are the basis for every session Sportscape do.

Throughout our PPA sessions and After school clubs each child is treated as an individual and each session is tailored to the learners needs to focus our participants towards respective success in their pursuit of excellence.
